MoU inked to address water shortage in Gwadar

Bizenjo says company will provide 0.3m gallons of water daily at a cost of only 80 paisas per gallon

QUETTA: At long last, the Balochistan government on Sunday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese company for provision of clean water to the residents of Gwadar.

Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo and China Overseas Holdings Limited Chief Executive Zhang Baozang signed the MoU during a ceremony held in Quetta on Sunday.

Pakistan to ‘self-finance’ Gwadar’s water treatment plant

Provincial Minister for Environment Prince Ahmed Ali, MPA Hamid Achakzai, Chief Secretary Aurangzeb Haq Mir and other officials were present at the ceremony.

Addressing the ceremony, Chief Minister Bizenjo said, “The Chinese company will provide 300,000 gallons of water daily at a cost of only 80 paisas per gallon for the people of Gwadar, which will end the grievous water scarcity issue in Gwadar.”

The Balochistan chief minister said, “The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has provided us with a chance to develop our deprived province.”

He hoped to benefit from the multi-billion dollar project.

Desalination plant opens at Gwadar port

On sense of deprivation among the people of Balochistan, Bizenjo said, “As our province has been ignored by the federal government for too long, the provincial government is taking all possible measures to provide better education, health and clean drinking facilities to the people.”

Expressing hope, the Balochistan chief minister said, “I am optimistic that the Centre will soon commence work on the already announced development projects in the province.”
