Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) threatened Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah with a Rs50 million defamation suit if he fails to apologise for the derogatory language used against women, Express News reported.

PTI member Uzma Kardar served a legal notice to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader through her counsel. The notice states that Sanaullah has mocked 52 per cent of the population with his misogynistic remarks. Sanaullah has been given seven days to tender an unconditional apology failing which a Rs50 million claim will be filed against him.

The move comes a day after Sanaullah refused to apologise over his misogynist remarks in the provincial assembly leading to a walkout by the opposition. He also termed his sexist remarks against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s women supporters as a “political statement”.

The misogynist comments, made during a news show on a private channel, drew ire from all quarters. The Punjab Government also distanced itself from the statement. Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif also apologised for the statements. "PML-N acknowledges and encourages the role of women in national politics, he said. "Any statement demeaning them is highly irresponsible. We have to maintain decency and element of respect in political discourse. I apologise for anti-women remarks made by some party leaders."

Defense Minister Khurram Dastgir-Khan also condemned the remarks on Twitter.
