Abbottabad: Lawyer files plea in Urdu

ABBOTABAD: Setting precedent to adopt Urdu as official language, a senior lawyer of high court filed his petitions and appeals in Urdu. Advocate Shafeeq Awan filed two writ petitions and four criminal appeals in Urdu at Peshawar High Court Abbottabad Registry. It was first occasion in Abbottabad that a high court lawyer had used the national language to file pleas. “Supreme Court of Pakistan has declared the Urdu as official language and all proceedings to be carried out in Urdu which will help plaintiff to understand the case technically and legally” said Awan while talking to newsmen after filing his writ and appeals. He added that after the landmark judgment by the apex court, now it is responsibility of lawyers and complainants to file their writs in Urdu.
