LDA approves Rs10b for multi-storey tower complex

Governing body approves funds for repair of several pedestrian bridges

LAHORE: The governing body of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), on Saturday, given green signal for the construction of a multi-storey LDA Tower Complex with an estimated cost of Rs10 billion.

The proposed LDA Tower Complex would be constructed at the vacant site of old fruit and vegetable market on Ferozepur Road (Kot Lakhpat). The city builder has also given nod for the immediate hiring of a consultant to initiate planning for the construction of the proposed complex.

The authority has also decided to carry out repair and upgrading of pedestrian bridges at Jail Road and Mall Road with an estimated cost of Rs41.57 million.

LDA demolishes four illegal structures 

These bridges were constructed a few years ago in front of Lahore College for Women University, Kinnaird College and Panorama Centre on the Mall Road.

The governing body meeting has also given go-ahead to transform Abdul Haque Road, starting from UBD Canal at Doctors’ Hospital to Southern Bypass near Lahore Expo Centre, into a signal-free corridor at a cost of Rs375.873 million with an aim to smoothen the heavy flow of traffic, especially during peak hours.

The authority also approved revised cost estimates to the tune of Rs465 million for the improvement and rehabilitation of Khayaban-e-Jinnah and Muhammad Ali Johar Town.

It also approved the amendment in scheme plan of the LDA Avenue-1 Housing Scheme and allowed construction of alternative access to 526 fully developed plots in N-block that are ready for possession.

The meeting rationalised eligibility criteria for appointment and promotion to different posts in LDA, including assistant director engineering, staff officer, call centre operators, electricians, linemen, draftsman and other lower cadre positions.

The meeting also decided to implement amendment in the rule 17-A of the Punjab Civil Servants (Appointment and Conditions of Service) Rules 1974 for the appointment of children of employees who died or were permanently incapacitated during service on posts in BS-01 to BS-11. The governing body amended criterion for appointment to posts of managing director as well as deputy managing director (finance, admin and revenue) in Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Lahore.

It approved appointments by selection on merit from amongst three senior most officers eligible for these posts besides appointment on deputation from the government.

Punjab Chief Minister’s Adviser and the LDA Governing Body member Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan chaired the meeting that was attended by the Member Punjab Assembly (MPAs) Bao Muhammad Akhtar, LDA Director General Shakeel Ahmad, WASA Managing Director Sayed Zahid Aziz, LDA Additional Director General (Headquarters) Samia Saleem, LDA Chief Town Planner Sayed Nadeem Akhter Zaid, LDA Chief Metropolitan Planner Shakeel Anjum Minhas, Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (TEPA) Chief Engineer Mazhar Hussain Khan and representatives of provincial and local governments, housing, Planning and Development Department Punjab and Finance Department. Lahore Division Commissioner Abdulah Khan Sumbal was also present in the meeting.
