Abbottabad incursion: ‘Commission to be constituted soon’

ISLAMABAD:

Federal Law Minister Maula Baksh Chandio said on Monday that the independent commission to investigate the lapses leading to the Abbottabad incursion will be constituted within a couple of days.

The consultation process for the commission has already been initiated in accordance with the parliamentary resolution, the minister said while addressing the media during an informal interaction.

“It is for the first time that the head of the Inter-Services Intelligence appeared before representatives of the people for accountability,” he said. Answering a question regarding US Senator John Kerry’s visit to Pakistan, Chandio said that there will be no compromise on the country’s sovereignty.

He dispelled the impression that there was a tussle between the executive and the judiciary.

The government’s decision to challenge the Lahore High Court verdict barring the president from participating in politics in the apex court should not be regarded as confrontation, Chandio said. However, he did not give a timeframe for filing the appeal.
