The women’s rights champion initiated its pilot project from the provincial capital by kickstarting an awareness campaign for women about prevention from harassment at public places. The UN Women, in cooperation with the Lahore Transport Company (LTC), last month, initiated a women safety helpline to address actual safety issues encountered by women and girls.

The UN Women and the PWDD jointly organised a two-day training session on Thursday for capacity-building on gender concerns and dealing with issues of harassment faced by women. The session also discussed providing women with safe public places at the premises of LTC. The prime objective of conducting the training session at the LTC was to create an understanding among the participants about gender equality, gender-based violence, generation to generation change and responding strategy while dealing with the complaints of harassment at public places particularly at bus stops and in public transport.
The two-day session was mainly focused on strengthening the capacity of the officials and staff concerned to ensure the promotion of gender equality and women’s empowerment agenda committed as enshrined in the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and Universal Declaration on Human Rights (UDHR).
LTC Deputy General Manager Enforcement Chaudhry Shafique Ahmed and consultant Akbar Ali Shah distributed certificates among the participants after completing the training workshop.
Amongst the participants of the training session were motor mobile patrol deputy inspector, transport and route enforcement inspectors, ticket checkers, fare collectors and drivers.
