India’s Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Swami Prasad Maurya slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Aligarh MP, Satish Gautam, for questioning the Aligarh Muslim University for displaying a photograph of Mohammad Ali Jinnah in the institute.

The Times of India reported that calling Jinnah a ‘mahapurush’ meaning a' great leader', Maurya stated that before Pakistan's formation, Jinnah contributed a great deal for India as well, and that it is a shame for anyone to point fingers at great leaders who have contributed towards the formation of the country.

In a letter written by Gautam to the AMU vice-chancellor Tariq Mansoor, Gautam had questioned the reason behind the placing Jinnah’s picture in the university.

Gautam insisted that there was no point in putting Jinnah’s photo in the university after the partition, and there was no valid justification whatsoever in having a picture of Pakistan’s founder inside the university.
