ITP to monitor traffic violations through safe city

Violators will get fine tickets delivered at their doorstep

ISLAMABAD: Nearly two years after the project first started operating, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has finally started monitoring traffic violations through the 1800 cameras installed across the city.

Following on from a similar system deployed in places such as Dubai, the capital police will then traffic tickets for the violations to the home of the vehicle owner.

The move has been taken following directions from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Dr Sultan Azam Temuri.

For this purpose, the ITP has set up a separate unit which would be responsible monitoring traffic on various thoroughfares of the capital.

SSP (Traffic) Farrukh Rasheed will personally monitor the new system. Moreover, relevant police officials have been acquainted with the traffic system.

This system is at par with international standards and developed countries use such systems to check traffic violations, officials said.

This system, they hoped, would help to ensure a safer road environment and maintain exemplary traffic system in the city and be a model for other cities in the country.

Talking about the system, SSP Rasheed said that tickets for the fines would be sent to the violators and that there would be a bar on transferring ownership of vehicles unless outstanding fines are cleared.

He added that fines, if not paid, can also be paid along with the annual car tax payment.

SSP Rasheed also urged citizens to transfer vehicles on their own names to avoid any inconvenience after implementation of this system.
