Implementation of traffic rules

Lahoris still fail to understand that traffic regulations are for their own safety

LAHORE: In Lahore and most other Pakistani cities, motorcyclists are the most careless and reckless of vehicle driver across the city. They flout almost all traffic safety regulations. Despite being charged with violation of traffic rules, Lahoris still fail to understand that traffic regulations are for their own safety.

Seeing a biker riding in all four traffic lanes of a road is a common sight, perhaps often engaged in a chase, these riders end up putting the safety of others at risk. Ninety per cent of the motorbike riders don’t have rear view mirrors on their bikes. Most accidents occur only due to the negligence on the part of the motorcycle riders.

Recently, a motorcyclist in Islamabad was run over by an American diplomat’s car. The motorcyclist died in the accident. I won’t side with anyone while blaming the other entirely, I am not favouring anyone, but it is no rocket science to deduce from the video footage of the incident that the motorcyclist was at fault too. Rules should be implemented strictly for motorcyclists together with heavy monetary fines for violating traffic rules.
