Judge Jamaluddin acquitted Kumar along with six other accused including Alam Khan and Feroz Khan due to lack of evidence. The trial was conducted over two years.

The men were arrested in connection with Singh's killing. The deceased, a PTI leader and adviser to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, was killed on April 22, 2016 in his native Buner village.

No Senate elections in K-P until Baldev Kumar takes oath, PHC observes

Singh was elected to the KP Assembly on a seat reserved for minorities. Kumar ranked second on the list.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) notified the latter as MPA following Singh's killing. Kumar has not been sworn in despite PHC, ECP directives ordering otherwise. His brother Tilak said Kumar remained imprisoned for two years on mere allegations.
