LHC issues notice to ECP over delimitation
Applicant says delimitation done on political grounds
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday issued a notice to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) over the issues of delimitation before the upcoming general elections.
Justice Shahid Waheed heard the application filed by Narowal resident Javed Kohlo, in which the delimitation has been challenged.
The applicant objected to the delimitation and pointed out that constituencies have been constituted prior to the elections on political grounds. The candidate's objectives and stance is necessary for a constituency, he pointed out. The applicant's lawyer has requested to declare current delimitation null and void on political grounds.
ECP rejects 21 delimitations objections
The court then issued a notice to ECP and sought an immediate reply.
Earlier this month, ECP rejected 21 objections raised on the latest changes in the constituencies and has only ordered to readjust two provincial assembly seats.
Objections were filed by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Ex-deputy speaker Sardar Yaqoob, provincial food minister Qalandar Khan Lodhi and others over NA-15 and NA-16 of Abbottabad district.
The ECP accepting the plea of member Tehsil Council Havelian Iftikhar Khan has detached UCs like Ghari Pulgran, Rajoiya and Banda Attai Khan from PK 37 to PK 38 and Union Council Salhad from PK 38 to PK 37 Abbottabad.
