Kalki Koechlin to rap with Ranveer Singh in 'Gully Boy'

The film is set to hit screens on February 19, 2019

Bollywood actor Kalki Koechlin has been listening to a lot of rap prior to recording a song with co-star Ranveer Singh. The two will be seen together in Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy, where Kalki plays the role of a music producer, reported The Indian Express.

The film also stars Alia Bhatt in the lead and is based on the rappers of Dharavi - Vivian Fernandes aka Divine and Naezy - known for their song, Mere Gully Mein.


Speaking of her role, Kalki reveals, "My character has studied music in Berkeley University and she comes back to India. She's producing a video but writes music as well."

The Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara actor also said that she has been listening to a lot of rap of Divine and Naezy "to understand where the voice was coming from".

She added that she needs to get into the zone as Ranveer and her need to record a song together for the film. Ankit Tiwari is producing music for the film and teaching the song to Kalki.

This is the second time Zoya and Kalki have collaborated. The two share a great sense of humour and Kalki appreciates Zoya's script and skill as a director.

Kalki explained that the film is about Dharavi slum rapping. Divine, Naezy and Kaam Bhari are some of the rappers who have written lyrics for the film.

Ranveer, in an earlier interview, mentioned that the story of Gully Boy means a lot to him. "Gully Boy is perhaps the dearest film. It is one of the closest to me after Band Baaja Baaraat because the latter was my first film."

The film has been wrapped up and is set to hit screens on February 19, 2019.
