National Water Policy

Letter April 26, 2018
The initiation of the policy is even more important in the light of the water scarcity in the country

ISLAMABAD: The Council of Common Interests has approved the first National Water Policy for the country. The policy aims to oversee and resolve various water-related conflicts between the provinces. As the policy is the very first ever, it is hoped that it will be fully implemented and will prove helpful in deciding many of the decades-old disputes among provinces, primarily those pertaining to water-sharing arrangement, as for greater part of Pakistan’s history, Punjab has been accused of receiving the largest yet unfair share of water resources.

The initiation of the policy is even more important in the light of the water scarcity in the country that has also adversely affected the national hydropower generation output.
