Suspension of sentence

Letter April 25, 2018
The law has once again sided with the powerful and the poor has been denied the due right to justice

LAHORE: The Islamabad High Court sentenced an Additional District and Sessions Judge and his wife to one-year imprisonment after the charges against them were proven to be true in the torture case of a 10-year-old housemaid. Previously, on the day the verdict was announced the judge and his wife were released on bail, however with the verdict still being in effect. Now in the recent development in the case, the Islamabad High Court has itself suspended the sentence for reasons best known to it.

Yet, with current suspension still being in place and for the reasons remaining under wraps it can be safely assumed that the law has once again sided with the powerful and the poor has been denied the due right to justice.
