Celebrate Malala

Letter April 24, 2018
Brave, courageous and fearless person who lent her voice to the sensitive issue of women’s empowerment

KARACHI: It is interesting that Pakistan’s Noble Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai returned to her hometown after six years after she was shot point-black in the head in 2012 for lending her voice to the cause of females’ right to education.

Malala and her family arrived in a helicopter which flew them to their hometown of Mingora, Swat, from Islamabad. In 2012, after receiving initial treatment in Pakistan, she was taken to England for further medical care. Later, in England she pursued her higher education and joined the prestigious Oxford University.

Malala is a brave, courageous and fearless person who lent her voice to the sensitive issue of women’s empowerment in Pakistan. But instead of being celebrated she got blamed for promoting a foreign agenda. In her case, we as Pakistanis don’t need to change the narrative of the others about us, we just need to change our thoughts and develop unity, and support our youth who uphold such causes.
