KARACHI: Despite the differences with Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leadership has decided not to end its alliance for now and would try to maintain the alliance with JI until the caretaker setup is formed.

PTI would not enter into any alliance or seat adjustment with JI or MMA in the next elections at the provincial or national level. Party's leadership made this decision after recent statement by JI Amir Sirajul Haq about Senate elections.

The PTI sources said that the party leadership has come to this conclusion after they analysed the statement in detail. The leadership has also decided that it is not the right time to end the alliance with JI at the provincial level as the K-P government’s term is about to be completed. Whereas, if JI wants to part ways from the K-P government, Chief Minister (CM) Pervaiz Khattak will not dissolve the assembly and the provincial government will complete its tenure. If JI calls for a no-confidence motion against the CM, the PTI will handle the situation in a democratic way.

NA-4 constituency: JI asks PTI to withdraw candidate from by-election

The PTI leadership has given CM Pervaiz Khattak the task of completion of the consultation with the opposition leader for the caretaker CM.

The JI sources told that the party leadership is considering the option of an early separation from the K-P government at high level.

PTI leader Asad Umar told Express that the recent statement by the JI chief was condemnable. He said that PTI was not breaking its alliance with JI on provincial level.

“Our priority is selection of the caretaker CM. JI has the choice to disassociate itself from the K-P government. PTI will not make an alliance with JI in the next elections,” said Asad Umar.

Consensus: JI, PTI agree on electoral alliance

The JI spokesperson Amirul Azeem said it was the PTI which called for an alliance with the JI. He said that the party was considering leaving K-P government.

Azeem said even if the JI decides to quit, it will not let the K-P government dissolve. He said JI will take part in the elections from the platform of MMA and no alliance with PTI is under consideration as of now. He said the recent statement by JI chief was based on facts.
