British woman who 'poisoned toddler with salt' sent to prison

While the lady sent pictures of her daughter's 'rapidly deteriorating state' to friends, she didn't call doctors

A British woman who poisoned her 18-month-old daughter with 20 grammes of salt was jailed for four years, MailOnline reported.

The 29-year-old deliberately administered her 18-month-old daughter a considerably dangerous amount of sodium chloride last year. Children of that age should consume no more than two grammes of the edible in a single day.

The woman had also googled the appropriate levels of salt to administer to a child, on the day of the incident.

While the lady sent pictures of her daughter's 'rapidly deteriorating state' to her friends and relatives, she refrained from calling doctors.

Both of the woman's children were taken into care following her arrest, while she also lost her job where she was serving as a charity worker.

Judge Simon Carr said during the sentencing her actions were "inexplicable".

"You were convicted by a jury of the extremely grave offence of administering a poisonous or noxious substance, in this case salt, so as to endanger life. Overwhelming evidence on that day shows that you gave her a significant amount of salt," he observed.
