Three men threw acid on a woman, injuring two others in the process, after she turned down a marriage proposal in Gujrat’s Dang district on Thursday. The women, students at the University of Gujrat, were waiting at a bus stop when the incident took place. One of the victims identified the three men as her uncle Abdul Qadeer, his son and his friend Hussam Owais. After recording the girl’s statement, police took Owais into custody. The other two will also be arrested soon, said the Dang SHO. He also revealed that the girl’s uncle threw acid after she turned down a marriage proposal. This claim was reiterated by the victim’s father, Umar Bilal. This is the third acid attack to have occurred in Gujrat in this month. Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and has asked the district police officer to submit a report.
