QUETTA: Balochsitan Governor Mohammad Khan Achakzai has said that the development and prosperity of the province is linked with proper utilisation of natural resources.

Achakzai said this while talking to European Union Ambassador in Pakistan Jean Francois Cautain at the Governor House on Wednesday.

“Balochistan is rich in natural resources, but proper utilisation of these resources is not possible in the absence of a modern infrastructure and in meager resources,” he lamented.

However, he said the government was trying its best to bring in foreign assistance and manpower to make proper use of the available natural resources in order put the province on the track of development and prosperity.

The governor said due to the scattered population on a vast area, “providing basic necessities of life – like clean drinking water, health and education – in Balochistan is quite difficult”.  But, he added, the government was doing its best to come up to people’s expectations.

He also stressed the need for technology and professional workforce in education sector. He called upon international institutions to come forward in this regard.

Achakzai said the government was committed to providing security to religious minorities and ensuring them religious freedom.
