PTI submits resolution against ambassador-designate

Siddiqui is facing charges of over Rs40 billion in stock exchange scam

LAHORE: A woman legislator from the Opposition benches demanded of the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar to take a suo moto notice of the appointment of Ali Jahangir Siddiqui as Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States of America despite his alleged involvement in a scam of Rs40 billion in stock exchange.

PTI’s Nabila Hakim Ali Khan told The Express Tribune only the Chief Justice of Pakistan who was a ray of hope for the people who stand against the corrupt elements. She claimed that most members of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were corrupt and that was why these people were being appointed on key posts to serve the interest of the party.

“There was a time when everyone believed that the judiciary was not independent and failed to render its role in the dispensation of justice to the masses but now the situation is different as the judiciary is being led by a brave and loyal man whose name is Mian Saqib Nisar,” she said.

She said the CJP was the ray of hope for what she termed ‘new Pakistan’ where everyone would be dispensed justice at their doorsteps. She demanded of the CJP to take notice against the appointment of Ali Jahangir Siddiqui as ambassador to the US adding it (the appointment) would tarnish the image of the country.

Meanwhile, Nabila also submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly demanding of the government not to appointing Siddiqui as Pakistan’s ambassador to the USA. She implored in her resolution that it was shocking that a man who was facing corruption charges in NAB was being appointed as Pakistan’s ambassador.

She contended Ali was facing charges of more than Rs40 billion trading scam in stock exchange adding the appointment of Ali has raised several questions that how a man, who is facing embezzlement charges, was appointed Pakistani ambassador to the USA.

“This House demands that the appointment of Ali Jahangir Siddiqui be stopped until the investigation was completed and proved innocent in corruption charges levelled against him,” she remarked. She said also demanded that Siddiqui’s name be put on the Exit Control List (ECL).
