Fauzia Wahab blasphemy case dismissed

Express May 28, 2010

LAHORE:

Sessions Court of Lahore dismissed a petition pleading Information Secretary, Dr Fauzia Wahab had committed blasphemy.

The Justice Lawyers Group had earlier filed a petition accusing Wahab of blasphemy by indulging in ‘loose talk’ culminating into a defamatory statement about Hazrat Omar. He alleged that Fauzia Wahab compared President Asif Ali Zardari to the caliph.

The group also accused Wahab of comparing the Pakistan Constitution to the Holy Quran which the lawyers claimed was blasphemous.

The additional sessions judge Sajjad Sheikh dismissed the petition, observing that nobody was harmed by these statements and there is no evidence of such an act or statement by Dr Fauzia either.
