Top court allows three-week stay to Lithuanian woman with daughters

SC directs lower court to supervise stay

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has allowed the Lithuanian woman to stay with her daughters in Gujranwala for three weeks.

A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Umar Atta Bandiyal and Justice Ejazul Ahsan, resumed hearing of a petition filed by the Lithuanian woman, Maimouna, seeking the recovery of her daughters Ayesha, Maryam, and Amna from the alleged illegal custody of her ex-husband Jamshid Siddique.



Observing that the minors would not be allowed to leave Pakistan, the top court warned the father to not corrupt the minds of the children against their mother.

The bench has ordered a lower court judge to supervise arrangements of the mother’s stay with the minors in Pakistan.

Earlier this month, the apex court had arranged a meeting between the mother and her daughters, seven years after her Pakistani ex-husband took them away.

The Supreme Court had taken notice of the Lithuanian woman’s plea on March 31. The petition was presented through her counsel Chaudhry Faisal Hussain in the chamber of the chief justice after office hours. The CJP directed the office to register the case and fix it before him and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan in his chamber.

Later, the CJP and Justice Khan heard the case and issued notices to the respondents. The court also ordered the Gujranwala DPO to present the minors before the court.
