National selection committee on Sunday announced a 16-man Test squad for the tour of Ireland and England and as expected Fawad Alam was once again not selected.

At first glance, the squad looks very inexperienced with the inclusion of five players who will make their Test debut over the course of three Test matches.

Limited-overs opener for Pakistan Fakhar Zaman will make his first appearance in the white jersey for Pakistan, while Imamul Haq, Usman Salahuddin and Saad Ali received their maiden calls for the longest format.

Leggie Yasir Shah, who will miss the tour due to a hip injury, was replaced by Pakistan’s limited-overs-favoured leg-spinner Shadab Khan.

“Yasir’s absence is a big loss for us,” Inzamam said. “If we look at his numbers for the last two years, he has more wickets than any other bowler for Pakistan. He was our strike bowler, all the games we’ve won he played a big part in. I hope he recovers quickly from his injury because we have some big home Test series coming up after this series too, and we will need him in the UAE.”

 Squad

Sarfraz Ahmed (c), Azhar Ali, Imamul Haq, Sami Aslam, Haris Sohail, Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Saad Ali, Asad Shafiq, Usman Salahuddin, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Abbas, Hasan Ali, Rahat Ali, Faheem Ashraf.

Really inexplicable. With such an inexperienced side it only made sense to have someone like Fawad in. He possesses the best domestic record for years now and has done decently well whenever given the chance to play for the intl team. Surely if merit is followed he should get an extended run after Misbah and Younis’ departure. Recommend

Can anyone seriously think that Imam-Ul-Haq is one of the top 16 potential test players in the country? A bit of “nephew-tism”, what?Recommend

Inzamam should be immediately removed as chief selector. He is very biased and unfair. Also my advice to him please don’ t disgrace beard and religious appearance. You are a hypocrite.Recommend

This is a young squad and might struggle in English conditions. Spin department is weak as well. Shahdab is yet to prove as a test spinner. Fast bowling looks fine, batsmen form will decide if Pakistan will test England in their own backyard. I can understand selectors logic to select a young side because they might find few future stars from this side. Fielding should be a plus point. We can debate all day about selection but if these players play as a team i am sure they will give England tough time. Good luck team Pakistan. Have a successful tour of UK. Recommend

Apparently the Board COO and a BOD member from Karachi don’t want Fawad Alam to be part of the cricket team ever. These two guys have stuck around even as multiple board chairmen have come and gone. They’ve been putting pressure on all selection committees, current and past, not to select him. You have to understand the politics of the game… the team is not always selected on merit. Why do you think Sarfraz or previous captains never mention Fawad Alam. Younis Khan tried hard to bring him into the side but ended up resigning from the captaincy… Afridi tried a bit as well but this board mafia is too powerful. It’s not Inzi.. its the board that doesnt allow Fawad Alam in the team and they never will no matter how much you the fans criticize kick or cry..Recommend

    100% Agreed with Shahid,

Inzamam should be removed immediately. Seriously disappointed, if you belong to big sooba(province) you will get the chance (in short).

Like current Govt. Inzamam is also doing the same “nephew-tism”

    Axed him immediately.Recommend

    Salam Every one.
A very sad news to hear that FAWAD has been left out once again. An embarassing moment for the selection staff to leave such an important player out of the squad.
I think pakistan test team is not much strong but can’t do any thing now .They will feel his absence.
Any ways All the Best to the national team.Recommend
