Diplomatic ties: Few nations enjoy relations as between Pakistan, Turkey

Photo exhibit opens to mark 71 years of ties between Islamabad and Ankara

ISLAMABAD: To mark the 71st anniversary of diplomatic ties established between Turkey and Pakistan, a special exhibition of photographs opened Friday.

Titled “Journey of Friendship and Brotherhood: A Pictorial Survey of Turkey-Pakistan Relations”, it was inaugurated by President Mamnoon Hussain and Turkey’s Ambassador to Pakistan Ihsan Mustafa Yurdakul.

The exhibition, organised in collaboration with the Turkish Embassy and the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Centre and be open for visitors from April 13 to 20 at Pakistan National Council of Arts.

President Hussain emphasised the distinct quality of Pakistan-Turkey relations and said that interaction between intellectuals and writers from both countries would strengthen the people-to-people contacts.

He expressed the hope that such events would also be organised in different parts of the country.

Hussain hailed the Turkish Embassy and the Yunus Emre Institute for their efforts in enlightening the new generation about the common heritage between the two nations.

Yurdakul shared some historical anecdotes relating to Pakistan-Turkey ties and underlined that there are few nations who enjoy such unique relations.

The ambassador went on to state that Turkey and Pakistan are neighbours without physical borders. He also indicated that the relations between the two countries are not based on interests of real-politik, rather are hinged on heartfelt affection and it inherits its strength from pure, simple and absolute brotherhood.

Professor Dr Halil Toker, the director of the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Centre based in Lahore, briefed the guests about the historical aspects of relations and said that the photo exhibition features some landmarks of the Turkish and Pakistani brotherhood and friendship journey.
