Literary conference: ‘Imperialists used literature to “control” people’ 

A number of prominent literary figures from across the country are participating in the conference

Imperialist forces have for long used literature as an instrument to influence the minds of the people and to perpetuate their hegemony and authoritarian rule.

This was stated by Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddqui as he opened a three-day literature festival at the varsity on Friday.

A number of prominent literary figures from across the country are participating in the conference and was formally inaugurated by renowned writers Dr Attaul Haq Qasmi and Prof Fateh Muhammad Malik.

Various writers spoke about the importance of literature in the development of a healthy society. Furthermore, they spoke about the role of media in national politics and society’s reconstruction.
