HYDERABAD: The fourth suspect booked in the gang rape case of a Hindu boy in Daro, Sujawal, was arrested in Hyderabad on Saturday after an anti-terrorism court rejected his bail plea. Umer Jumani, who has been blamed for filming the rape of the boy, which later circulated on social media, was handed over to the police on a five-day physical remand.

The ATC in Hyderabad had earlier on April 8 remanded three other accused, Arbab Ibrahim Memon, Saleem Gagu and Saleh Memon, to police custody for seven days. Jumani obtained protective bail from the Sindh High Court in Karachi last week. However, while granting the suspect five day’s bail, the SHC ordered him to appear before the court hearing the case.

Child murder

Separately, the Hyderabad police claimed to have resolved the murder case of five-year-old Uzma Kaleri who was killed in Hyderabad rural on March 9. Despite the family’s suspicion of rape and murder, City SP Zahida Parveen told a press conference in Hyderabad on Saturday that the child was killed by her aunt.

"Uzma wasn't raped. Her throat was slit with a sharp object," she said, adding that her maternal uncle's wife, Sher Bano, was suspected of committing the gory offence. The suspect has been arrested, SP Parveen said. Pakistan Peoples Party Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had taken notice of the incident and sent a party MPA to condole with the family and assure them of the government's help to get justice.
