In wake of the landmark Supreme Court (SC) ruling barring former prime minister Nawaz Sharif from holding public office for life on Friday, noted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders were quick to present their two cents on the issue.

PTI vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Friday urged Sharif to move on. Nawaz must refrain from taking any step that creates difficulties for him and negatively impacts the democratic process, Qureshi said.  "The PML-N still has a majority in the assembly," he said. The PTI leader said the attitude of the PML-N high command had compelled disgruntled members to jump ship.

Article 62: Disqualification is for life, SC rules in historic verdict

Qureshi said the PTI had accepted the verdict and the PML-N ought to follow suit. "The PTI will resist any PML-N move to remedy the development," he said.

Former PTI general secretary Jahangir Tareen, who stands disqualified too, said on Twitter that while he always believed that Article 62 (1)(f) was applicable for life, his case was different.

"Full money trail provided of tax paid income, property declared in assets of children and not mine on advice of tax consultant. My review is still pending and IA justice will prevail."

PTI leader Arif Alvi took to Twitter to term the verdict a "big and a rightful blow to Nawaz Sharif for looting and plundering of Pakistan, the wealth that rightfully belongs to the poor." He also reiterated Tareen's comments, saying his revision petition remained pending.
