Flawed justice system

Letter April 13, 2018
An important step towards fixing the system is a constant update

LAHORE: Following the resumption of death sentences in Pakistan, so far scores have been executed under the verdicts awarded after the completion of judicial inquiry of cases, according to a recent report released about the criminal justice system. Most importantly, the report also highlights the flaws in the justice system that despite an elongated legal inquiry procedure spanning over years, it does not significantly consider the change in situational context and circumstances that pertain to a particular case and the accused. Hence, the procedure and the verdict are very much awarded under the light of the facts handed over to the court at the beginning of the inquiry.

With that, an important step towards fixing the system is a constant update of not only case-related facts but also the physical and mental condition of the accused or the prisoner.
