LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed 23 food outlets and imposed fines on another 79 businesses for violating provincial food regulations on Wednesday.

PFA officials conducted raids against suppliers and businesses selling unhygienic and substandard food in all 36 districts of the province. The operation was conducted on orders issues by PFA Director General Noorul Amin Mengal during the authority’s on going drive against adulterated food items.

PFA officials also discarded over 25,000kg of adulterated ketchup, 2,000 packets of sub-standard snacks, 3,500 packets of biscuits, 335 litres of chemically contaminated milk and 260kg of adulterated pepper.

During the inspection, the authority sealed 23 food businesses including production units, hotels, factories, warehouses, catering units and milk shops over unhygienic conditions. They also Imposed fines worth Rs426,000 on 50 food points.
