SHC CJ grants one week to IG, others to submit progress report

Main accused, two other suspects tracked down, court informed

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Ahmed Ali M Shaikh gave on Tuesday one week to the inspector-general (IG) of police, Sujawal SSP and others to file their reports regarding investigations into the alleged gang-rape of a Hindu boy by a local politician in Sujawal district.

The top provincial judge granted one-week time while hearing a suo motu case. The main suspect in the case has been identified as Arbab Ibrahim Memon who is the son of a local leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party. He, along with two others, have been accused of sexually abusing the 19-year-old boy.

The culprits also allegedly filmed the assault and uploaded it online, which went viral on the internet.

Taking suo motu notice on a report regarding the incident, the Justice Shaikh directed the IG, Sujawal SSP and others to submit reports regarding the investigations into the alleged gang-rape and arrest the accused.

On Tuesday, the SHC was informed on behalf of the IG, Sujawal SSP and others that the main suspect, along with two others, had been tracked down. However, they requested the court to grant more time to submit progress report in this regard.

Allowing the request, the SHC CJ granted them a week to submit progress reports.
