PESHAWAR: One person died and another got injured in rain related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a Westerly wave hit the province on Monday afternoon, causing widespread rain with dust and thunderstorms.

According to the K-P Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and Rescue 1122, the incident occurred in Bunda Nabi area of Nowshera where a roof collapsed in heavy downpour on Monday evening, killing a mother on the spot while her daughter was rescued from the rubbles in injured condition and was shifted to hospital.

PDMA spokesperson Taimur Ali said that apart from the Nowshera incident, they have not received any damages information from the district administrations. "We are on high alert and in contact with the district administrations to timely respond any emergency situation," Taimur said.

The heavy downpour also caused land sliding in hilly areas of Malakand Division particularly in Shangla District, causing road blocks.

In Peshawar, rain water entered houses near the Budni Nala, causing damages to properties. On Monday evening, the traffic on GT Road, University Road, Saddar and Khyber Road choked after the rain as water inundated the roads while the construction material of the ongoing Peshawar BRT Project also troubled the commuters. Many vehicles got stuck in the dugouts on the service roads.

The Pakistan Metrological Department says that the western weather system will continue to effect parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA until Wednesday causing rains with hailstorm and thunderstorms. It recorded 42 millimeters rainfall in Peshawar.

The weather office has also said that this pattern of weather is likely to persist in most parts of K-P for the next two days, as isolated places in Bannu, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan and Tank districts will also likely receive rains.

Rain and thunderstorms had earlier lashed parts of Hazara, Malakand, Peshawar, Mardan, and Kohat divisions, according to reports.

Data released by the Met Office outlined that Dir received 50mm of rain, while 32mm of rain was recorded in Mala Jabba. Kohat, Peshawar and Chitral also received spells of light rainfall.
