Gunned down: Education works DO among 4 shot dead

DO killed allegedly by colleague because of transfer orders.

Four people including the education works DO were gunned down on Friday.

Education Works DO Sadiq Qureshi, 42, was shot dead allegedly by a colleague, assistant engineer Zulfiqar Rizwani, in the Garden area. He died during treatment at a private hospital. Jamshed Town SP Aamir Farooqui said Sadiq had transferred Rizwani to rural Sindh, which had angered him. Hence, the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Sadiq three times.

SP Farooqui said Sadiq had transferred him twice before, but the suspect had the transfer orders cancelled. He is survived by five children and was a resident of Safura Goth.

Separately, Majid Hussain, 32, was shot dead by motorcyclists in Orangi Town 11½. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. According to the Iqbal Market police, Majid was a resident of the same area. On Friday, he left home at 6:15 am for work but as soon as he boarded the bus, a motorcyclist called out his name. When Majid saw that this man was armed, he started running away but the motorcyclist caught up with him and opened fire. He was shot eight times. Even though there were several witnesses, none of them were able to identify the suspect.

The police have registered FIR No. 102/2011. Majid’s funeral prayers were held in Hyderi Imambargah and he was later buried. In Sajjan Goth, unidentified suspects shot a 26-year-old man dead. The Syedabad police took the body to Civil hospital. According to them, the victim was Baloch. FIR No. 274/2011 has been filed. Elsewhere, Nadeem Khan, 30, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Baghdadi. In a similar incident, Mohammad Zada, 22, was shot by motorcyclists. He was taken to Jinnah hospital.
