KARACHI: A minor girl and a security guard of a private money exchange company were killed during separate robbery incidents in the city on Monday.

A minor girl lost her life, while a young man was critically wounded in a firing incident that took place in Sector 51, Korangi within the limits of the Zaman Town police station. Police officials said that at least four armed men riding two motorcycles were behind the incident. The robbers opened indiscriminate fire when the victims offered resistance. As a result, a six-year-old girl and 22-year-old man were wounded. The robbers, however, managed to escape the scene.

Rescue workers from different welfare associations reached the site and shifted the victims to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment where the girl, who was later identified as Eshal, daughter of Wajid Omar, succumbed to her injuries. Meanwhile, Mohib Elahi was admitted with critical injuries.

Zaman Town SHO Malik Ashfaq said that the incident took place when armed men were trying to loot cash from Elahi who was nearing his house after withdrawing cash from a bank. Ashfaq added that as soon as Elahi neared his house, the armed robbers attempted to steal the cash from him, however, the robbers opened indiscriminate fire on the victim after he offered resistance. Elahi suffered bullet wounds, while Eshal, who was playing on the street also became a victim of the incident.

A case was registered and further investigation is under way. Similarly, a security guard of a private company was killed in a firing incident on main Rashid Minhas Road within the limits of the Federal B Industrial Area. The deceased was identified as 35-year-old Khalid.
According to SHO Sajid Javed, the security guard was travelling in a high-roof van of a private money exchange company along with a driver and staff. They were on their way somewhere with cash in the van after leaving their office in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

The officer said that at least two armed men riding a motorcycle were following them and attempted to intercept the van. They opened fire upon seeing the armed security guard and later managed to escape the scene. As a result, the security guard was wounded and shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal and Inspector-General Allah Dino Khowaja took notice of the incident and sought a report from the police officials concerned. The police was also asked to arrest the culprits behind the incident.
