Abbottabad clinches top spot in education service delivery

PESHAWAR: Abbottabad district clutched the top position by securing 64.69% marks in district performance in education Service Delivery for the month of January 2018.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department has reconciled results of District Performance Evaluation System (DPES) for the month of January, with support of DFID in which district Abbottabad securing high secure, followed by Charsadda with 63.34%, Swabi with 61.87%, Malakand with 61.16% and Lakki Marwat with 60.69%.

It is pertinent to mention that Lakki Marwat District remains in the top five but lost the first position which it bagged for consecutive three months.



According to the documents DPES ranks all 25 districts of K-P on a set of key education indicators which include student learning outcomes: using 5th and 10th grade results, attendance rate of students, teachers and non-teaching staff, physical and financial progress of development projects in schools, percentage of out of school children enrolled, provision of textbooks, furniture and stipends to students.

The objectives of DPES are to assess district performance on key education indicators in line with education sector plan and to introduce a reward and penalty mechanism to accelerate performance and service delivery. Every month, the E&SED conducts district ranking meeting where the officials of best performing districts are rewarded with certificates whereas, the officials of poor performing districts are given a chance to explain the reasons for which makes it difficult for their district to compete with other districts.

There have been considerable changes in the indicators used in DPES January 2018. For instances, the data of Out of School Children Census has been incorporated to see the district wise percentage change in student enrollment.
