Tea lovers beware: PIA takes its passengers 'back to the future'

Entire batch with incorrect manufacturing date returned, the supplier has been blacklisted: PIA spokesperson

KARACHI: Many others may have been struggling, but Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is one organisation that seems to have accomplished a future-proof system – well, at least for its kitchen.

The forward-looking national flag carrier seems overcautious not to serve its valued passengers with any stale items. So much so that it served a sugar sachet with a future manufacturing date -- July 2018.

However, when a photo of the sachet went viral on social media the national carrier spoke out saying that the entire batch with the incorrect manufacturing date has been returned, as well as, the supplier being placed on their blacklist.

"PIA administers strict controls for its flight kitchen and its customers’ wellbeing is its utmost priority," PIA spokesperson Mashhood Tajwar said.



He added that the batch has been returned back to the supplier after a thorough inspection of the available stock.

"The supplier has been blacklisted and a legal notice issued and we [PIA] reserve the right to claim damages," he added.

Tajwar added that a further check of all food items at the PIA flight kitchen had been ordered by PIA CEO Musharraf Rasood Cyan.

He said that an inquiry is underway to take necessary action against officials' negligence.
