Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari said on Saturday that his party had made all efforts to save Nawaz Sharif’s government but he never repaid the favour and that he will be held accountable when the times comes, Express News reported.

The PPP leader stated this while addressing a gathering at Nawabshah Press Club.

He said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has been reaching its decline for the past one and a half years. It was at that time that we saved his government from collapsing, otherwise a new battle for the thrones would have begun.

However, the PML-N leader never repaid the favour, Zardari said and added that he planned to rally against Nawaz in the general elections.

PPP set to topple Nawaz Sharif's stronghold in Punjab: Zardari

The former president claimed that his party did everything for the betterment of Pakistan, not for personal gain. He reasserted that only PPP could save the country from its current state of turmoil. “PPP is a massive power, but they [political rivals] can't realize it,” he remarked.

The veteran politician reiterated that Nawaz Sharif "uses politics for his own personal objectives, not for democracy." He further said that if our state institutions failed, Pakistan would eventually face the same fate as that of Afghanistan."

Nawaz’s four and a half year tenure saw Pakistan in an isolated state, he added.

He said that during his tenure, all the regional countries were with Pakistan, such was our foreign policy. Even Iran and Afghanistan were holding hands with Pakistan. And today, these counties are holding Indian hands.
