The flight was flown by Capt Maqsood Bijarani along with chief engineer Farhan Mir, making PIA the first airline, bearing the national flag to land and take-off from the newly constructed airport.
PIA CEO Musharraf Rasool Cyan lauded its employees including pilots, engineers, cabin crew for the successful landing and take- off from the new airport.
The first trial flight was entirely handled by PIA personnel including the ground handling at the airport after landing and take- off.

The new airport in the federal capital is the biggest airport in the country in terms of landing and passenger handling facilities and has two 3.5 kilometre long runways.

The new airport, built over nineteen square kilometres, has fifteen jetties that include facilities to accommodate the world’s largest aircraft.
On Friday, the national flag carrier introduced a new livery with its logo and design to include a painting of the Markhor, the national animal which inhabits the mountainous regions of the country.
The Markhor will be visible on the aircraft tail, while the national flag will adorn the forward section of the fuselage, accompanied by PIA – written in English and Urdu.
