Pakistan were saved by a last-minute goal by Ali Mubashar as the Men in Green pulled off a draw 2-2 against India at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

India opened the scoring with Dilpreet Singh in the 12th minute, while Harmanpreet Singh doubled their lead the 19th minute.

However, Pakistan made a comeback courtesy Muhammad Irfan Jr's goal and reduced the deficit to just one goal.

India must have started celebrating their victory against Pakistan, but a last-minute set piece attempt gave the latter a much-needed goal and a point too in their second match of the Games.

“We simply did not play to our potential today," India's chief coach Sjoerd Marijne said as quoted by Hockey India. "Losing our head in this game gave way to too many unforced errors and we did not play to the rhythm that we usually do."

He added that India need to set their focus on the next match against Wales. “This is a setback for us, but we need to come-back strong. The leaders in the team need to step up and lead the team by making good on-field decisions and ensure we stick to our game plan,” Marijne said.

This was Pakistan's second draw in as many matches as earlier they were held to a 1-1 draw by Wales.

They will take on England in their next fixture on April 8.

Muhammad Ahmed | 6 years ago | Reply India and Pakistan should join their voices to stop the Europeanization of hockey. Reduction of hockey blade size, promotion of penalty corners, doing away with off side rule and removing the obstruction foul are examples of rules that have tilted the game to Europe's favour. This is not hockey. If the Europeans do not agree then perhaps we should bring the real hockey back.
