Following the anti-judiciary remarks passed by former premier Nawaz Sharif outside an accountability court in Islamabad, head of the Judicial Activism Panel sent a notice to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulation Association (PEMRA) to ban such talks.

According to Express News, Advocate Izhar Siddiq sent the notice to  PEMRA to put a stop to anti-judiciary marks especially outside the accountability courts.

The notice reads that Nawaz, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar step outside the court and pass remarks and comments opposing the courts. The notice further added that Nawaz and accomplices use this trick to pressurise the judges and to make the trial 'controversial'.

IHC issues notice to PEMRA for airing anti-judiciary speeches

All talks pertaining to state institutions which have been broadcasted need to be owned and dealt with by the PEMRA, the notice adds. PEMRA needs to consider banning Nawaz, Maryam and others' media talks after every accountability hearing, the notice advised.

Last month, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) sent out notices to the federal secretary for Ministry of Information, PEMRA and other organisations over airing anti-judiciary speeches given by Nawaz.

In the request, the counsel stated that speeches being made by Nawaz and other influential people were undermining functions of government departments, urging the top judiciary to take notice of the issue.

Speeches against the top judiciary and its departments affect the check-and-balance power of the courts, the complaint said, asking PEMRA as well as other organisations to stop airing such content.
