Transgender raped, tortured in Khanewal

Police arrest two suspects, who kidnapped and sexually assaulted her at their farmhouse

MULTAN: A transgender has been allegedly raped and tortured by two men in Khanewal district, said police.

However, the suspects have been arrested, they added.

According to Khanewal city police, two suspects, Adnan and Datto, who are residents of district Khanewal, kidnapped a transgender named Naina. "They took her to their farmhouse where they raped and tortured her."

Some members of the transgender community received information about the incident and rescued Naian before transporting her to the hospital.

A case has been registered at the Khanwal city police station and both the suspects have been arrested. Police said further investigation would be carried out once they get the results of the medical report.

President of the transgender community in South Punjab, Shahana Shani said incidents of the rape of transgender people were increasing with each passing day. "People make fun of us. The culprits should be awarded strict punishment in accordance with the law."

Social activists also condemned the torture and rape of Naina. Civil Society Network President in South Punjab, Maroof Naeemullah, said, "Until we educate our youth about human rights, irrespective of their gender, such horrible incidents will keep on happening."
