KARACHI:
Pakistan will be taking on second seed Uzbekistan in the upcoming Asia-Oceania Group I Davis Cup clash in Islamabad on April 6 and 7.

This is the third time that the two countries will be facing each other nearly after a gap of 19 years. While the record falls in favour of Uzbekistan, who won both previous encounters in 1996 and 1999, Pakistan will be hoping to book a place in the next round against all odds.

ATP to bring back World Team Cup

While Pakistan have the advantage of playing at home, the newly implemented three-sets format of the tournament may also favour the home team. The team will be playing on grass court which is a more suitable surface for the Pakistanis.

The team will be relying on country’s top-ranked player Aqeel Khan and seasoned star Aisamul Haq Qureshi to bring home the Cup for the nation. They will be expected to echo their performance against South Korea, where the duo won 4-0.

According to Aqeel, the tie will be a challenge, but Pakistan are up for it. The team also includes Heera Ashiq, Shahzad Khan and Muzammil Murtaza.
