Police crack five murder cases, 25 robberies

Over 450 suspects were held last month and looted items worth Rs73 million recovered

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police arrested 454 suspects during the last month including 43 suspected robbers and 128 absconders, recovering looted items worth Rs73.626.

A statement issued by the Operations SSP over the police performance for the last month says the capital police traced as many as 25 robbery and dacoity cases and recovered looted valuables worth Rs2.1 million. A total of 43 suspects were held in connection with these robbery cases.

The statement said 40 suspects were held for their involvement in 24 cases of street crime and theft and looted items worth Rs35.058 million were recovered from them. Five blind murders cases were traced and nine persons involved in these cases were nabbed during the reporting period. Cases have been registered against these accused at various police stations.

Likewise, police initiated crackdown against those involved in drug pushing activities and nabbed 113 drug pushers and recovered 14.077 kilogramme hashish, 2829 gramme heroin
and 3190 bottles of liquor from them.

As many as 33 persons were held for their involvement in stealing and tampering with vehicles and motorcycles. It said 53 stolen car and 10 motorcycles have been recovered.

Investigation on 660 cases were completed and their challans were submitted in relevant courts. Police also arrested 87 persons for having illegal weapons and recovered three Kalashnikovs, 84 pistols and 798 rounds from them.

Legal action was taken against 493 beggars. Around 37 door-to-door search operations were conducted in various areas of the city
and 77 suspects were also held besides recovery of weapons and ammunition from them.

Though the police gave out numbers of cases traced and valuables recovered, it withheld the details about the number of crime incidents reported during the period.
