ABBOTTABAD: A couple was slain by the woman’s family allegedly for contracting marriage by their own choice.

The gruesome practice of so called honour killing took the lives of Fiza Bibi and Nadeem Saleem in Banda Ali Khan Village. Police have arrested Fiza’s father and an accomplice.

Fiza and Nadeem got married through court around one year ago, police and family sources said. Fearing harsh reaction from their respective families, they took up residence in a rented house in Qalandarabad Village.

Court marriage: Daring to say ‘I do’ in court

A few days ago, Fiza’s family asked them to come back and everyone will forgive and forget, Yasir Saleem, brother of deceased Nadeem, told the police. Late on Friday night, Fiza’s father killed her and Nadeem and dumped the bodies in an open field.

Yasir filed an FIR with Mirpur police station on Saturday under section 302 and 34. Later police arrested Muhammad Anwar father of Fiza and his accomplice Murad Khan.

Bodies of the both after autopsy were handed over to the family of Yasir Saleem.

Separately, a man killed his brother for killing their mother. According to police, Nauman Mubarak allegedly killed his mother, Shamim Mubarak, over a petty issue within the remits of Lora police in Havelian. When Shamim’s other son, Aman heard the news, he came rushing home and as soon as he saw his brother, Nauman, he whipped out a pistol, shot him and fled.

Police were clueless about Aman’s whereabouts, though they have a registered a case against him.
