Five killed as car plunges into Neelum river
Six people were also reported to be injured in the mishap
MUZAFFARABAD:
At least five people were killed and six others injured when a passenger jeep fell in Neelum river some 190 kilometers off Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Friday.
The tragedy struck when a snow avalanche hit the jeep near Sardari area of Taobat, Neelum valley, and forced it down 700 feet.
Locals and Army troops rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. The injured were shifted to military hospital Kel where two were stated to be in a critical condition.
The deceased were, Darwash Khan, resident of Chitral, Shaukat Abbas, Jhang, Sargodha while three others Hajra Muhstaq, Nisar Mushtaq and Amir Sain were the residents of Taobat.

The injured passengers were identified as Sain Rehman, Nazakat, Molvi Abdul Manaaf, Ayesa Bibi, Abdul Samad and Reyaz.
Meanwhile, Speaker AJK legislative assembly Shah Ghulam Qadri expressed deep sorrow and grief over the deaths.
He condoled with the bereaved families and assured them all available help. He directed the district administration to issue the compensations cheques on priority basis.
