QUETTA: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that his party’s positive vision halted the PPP and the PML-N from setting up machinations to elect their own Senate chairman.

“We consider election of Sadiq Sanjrani as the Senate chairman a victory for PTI,” said the PTI chairman while talking to journalists in Balochistan House at Hanna Orak Valley on the outskirts of the provincial capital on Thursday.

Would like to see someone from Balochistan as Senate chairman: Imran

He was flanked by Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo.

He said, “We are already despondent by the performance of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and condemn his remarks against the Senate chairman.”

He thanked political parties for supporting the PTI in bringing in a Senate chairman from Balochistan.

Imran said that the PTI had demanded Senate’s chairmanship for Balochistan and deputy chairmanship for Fata to end the sense of deprivation among the two neglected regions.

Opposition parties ‘congratulate Balochistan’ over Senate victory

“The Senate’s chairmanship tittle for Balochistan is an honour for the neglected people. I assure that Sadiq Sanjarani as the Senate chairman will positively affect Balochistan and will be helpful in bringing stability and development in Balochistan,” Imran added.

Criticising PM Abbasi, the PTI chairman said, “Why Abbasi shut his lips during rigging in the 2013 elections? Now he is claiming that votes were bought by spending a lavish amount but he should remember that votes were sold in Changa Manga.”

Changa Manga is popular for allegations that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had called members of parliament to Changa Manga and bribed them for voting for his party.

PPP unwilling to support ‘inexperienced’ Balochistan candidates for Senate chairman

“Abbasi is a puppet prime minister who is controlled by Sharif. Our PM is defending a man who is involved in money laundering and looting billions of rupees,” alleged Imran.

On National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigations against Sharif, the PTI chairman said, “Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz have been trying to distract people of the country by claiming that JIT head Wajid Zia didn’t nominate Sharif in the London flats case. The case is against Maryam Nawaz, we have been asking Maryam’s source of income? Sharif has already bought properties for his children.”

Slamming the PML-N leadership for criticising Supreme Court judges, Imran said, “There is no such precedent where a sitting prime minister criticises the Supreme Court’s judgement. We want to ask him that when thousands of cells are filled with criminals then why they are not accepting the court’s judgement against them.”

On Bajwa Doctrine, Imran said, “What I assumed from Bajwa Doctrine is that the army is standing with the judiciary and democracy, but Sharif’s Doctrine is to rig the elections to come to power and make money through corruption.”

Khawaja Asif is a security risk: Imran

To a question regarding horse-trading during the Senate elections, the PTI Chairman said, “Asif Ali Zardari is as corrupt as Sharif. Our efforts prevented both the corruption kingpins from clinching the Senate’s chairmanship.”

Imran congratulated the Balochistan chief minister for launching a new political party Balochistan Awami Party. Imran said, “The PTI will make alliance with the political party which is striving against corruption. The PTI is ready to make the next government in Pakistan and we will not make alliance with political parties that are being led by corrupt leaders.”

CM Bizenjo announced to march towards Islamabad against the prime minister unless he reversed his remarks against Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.

Senate chairman: Bilawal announces support for Sadiq Sanjrani

“The Prime Minister has disheartened the people of Balochistan by giving irresponsible comments against Sanjrani who is a true Balochistani. Abbasi has to reverse his words or we will march towards Islamabad against him.”

He said “We don’t believe in point-scoring. The Senate chairman has been elected under a full democratic process.”

The CM thanked the PTI chairman for supporting the independent senators’ group in grabbing Senate’s chairmanship. “We applaud the support of the PTI, the PPP, senators from Fata and of the MQM for making Balochistan proud and electing Sanjrani as the Senate chairman.”
