The BJP-led government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was criticized after the question paper of CBSE’s class 10 maths paper was leaked.

Soon after students turned in their answer sheets, the board of examination announced a retest and claimed that it was addressing reports of the exam paper being leaked.

Angry students, agitated by the announcement of a retest, blamed Modi, who is already facing other data leak controversies.

Meanwhile, the Union Human Resource Development minister Prakash Javedkar speculated that the leak could be an organised crime by a group. He added that prompt action will be taken against such elements.

The CBSE exam leak comes as a humiliation to the state administration which was conducting the exams after a period of eight years. Moreover, there were reports of the economics paper also being leaked on the same night.

In an official statement, CBSE said that the board had taken into consideration “certain happenings in the conduct of certain examinations”.

In light of which it decided to re-conduct the maths and economics papers to “uphold the sanctity of the board and in the interest of fairness to the students”.

“Dates for fresh examinations and other details shall be hosted on the CBSE website within a week,” read the exam notice.

The case was reported to the Delhi police and an investigation was launched.

According to CBSE spokesperson Rama Sharma, this year, all papers that were sent across Delhi and abroad had the same set of questions.

The public relations department of the exam board also has no knowledge of how the leak spread.

However, they added that only two papers will be cancelled “because we had credible information that it was a possible leak,” said an official.

"How many leaks? Data leak! Aadhaar leak! SSC exam leak! Election date leak! CBSE papers leak! There is a leak in everything, the watchdog is weak", tweeted Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi.
