Rs3.8 billion disbursed to EOBI, govt apprises top court

The SC had sought a detailed report from the deputy attorney general regarding the payments

ISLAMABAD: The federal government informed the top court on Thursday that it had doled out Rs3.8 billion for pensions to the Employees Old Age Benefit (EOBI).

Deputy Attorney General of Pakistan Sohail Mahmood submitted a compliance report in the Supreme Court in the suo motu hearing pertaining to EOBI funds.

The report stated that against the claim of EOBI of Rs3,334 million as 50 per cent contribution by the federal government, the finance division has already paid the aforementioned amount during the financial year 2014-15.

EOBI: Increase in pension demanded

It further added that Rs1,666 million and Rs833 million (total Rs2,499 million) have been paid to EOBI on March 22 this year.

The statement further read that the “NDMA has refunded Rs1,150 million by online transfer to EOBI on March 26.”

"Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal transferred Rs100 million to EOBI on March 7," it added. "The EOBI certified receipt of the said amount on March 13."

I very much regret to mention that Government increases pension every year of all the Government departments but unfortunately for the last four year there was no increase in EOBI pensioners. We the old citizens are going through a very very hard time because we can not manage our food, utilities bills, accommodation, our children education and the daily expense in such a small amount of Rs.5,200/- I have worked in Middle East for 15 years and I have sent millions of Rupees to my country through Banks I have the proof if I am asked to show that I have sent money, and I also asked other so many people who were sending money by some illegal ways like (HUNDY) etc. I am a diabetes patient and have no any source of income, I request to Govt. for God sake do not ignore your old citizen who have given their best to this country and they are helpless even no food to eat, Please please do some thing for us and increase our pension.
