After setting examples in two major provinces, might travel to K-P soon: CJP

A bench, headed by CJP, resumed hearing of sub-standard faulty heart stents case

The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday, remarked that now examples have been set in two major provinces of the country, and he may be going to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) in the upcoming weeks.

The bench, headed by the CJP, resumed the hearing of the sub-standard faulty heart stents case. The CJP also remarked that for matters of the heart, blood pressure and diabetes, there needs to be an affordable solution. “The solution should cost from Rs500 to Rs1,000. If one goes to consult a doctor, it ends up costing Rs5,000 to Rs7,000,” Justice Nisar added.



“I have set examples in the first two provinces, and probably will be visiting K-P as well,” he further said. “The Punjab government has outsourced their functioning, and there needs to be a reduction in the prices of dialysis as well, and the entire process of installing a heart stent should cost between Rs60,000 and Rs1,00,000,” the CJP added. The bench then adjourned the hearing for two weeks.

Last month, during the hearing of the substandard heart stents case, a committee of senior doctors submitted a report in the Supreme Court (SC) stating that the cost of placing a stent in the heart will reduce from Rs0.3 million to Rs0.1 million.

According to Express News, a three-member bench, headed by the CJP heard the substandard stents case. The committee of senior doctors formed on the order of the court submitted its report. Dr Azhar Kiyani informed the court that the total cost of placing a stent in the heart would be Rs0.1 million.



The CJP remarked that reducing the cost to Rs0.1 million is a wonder, and added that the report is great news for him.
