ISLAMABAD : National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Turkey and both the fraternal countries are tied by the bonds of religion, history and culture. He said that the existing relations can be further cemented through enhanced interaction of parliamentarians from both sides.

He expressed these views while talking to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNAT), Ismail Kahraman on the sidelines of the 138th Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly at Geneva, Switzerland.

“People of Pakistan and Turkey have exemplary feelings of respect and friendliness for each other that can best be materialized in the form of enhanced economic cooperation between the two countries”, stated the NA speaker while terming the relationship as a historic association that is deeply imbedded in people’s hearts and minds.

He also stressed that a greater exchange of parliamentary delegations is necessary because such exchanges will provide opportunities to exchange views and learn from the experiences of each other

“Turkey holds a unique importance in Pakistan’s strategic calculations for regional cooperation”, added Ayaz while expressing the need for robust connectivity with Turkey.

Likewise, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Kahraman said that Turkey is determined to foster strong ties with Pakistan through greater bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

“Bilateral cooperation between the two countries will unleash a new wave of connectivity in the region”, remarked Kahraman. He also reaffirmed his commitment for expanding trade and cultural relations and similarly urged the need for exchanges of parliamentary delegations.

While congratulating on Pakistan Day, Kahraman said that the Turkish people can never forget the sacrifices of the Muslims of Indo-Pakistan during the Turk War of Liberation.

“We strongly desire to translate our historic association with Pakistan into an economic and strategic partnership in all fields for mutual benefit”, said the Turkish speaker.
