Sindh's rulers tormenting wheat farmers, harming economy: Dr Arif Alvi

PTI leaders address press conference at Hyderabad Press Club

After making the lives of sugar cane farmers miserable, the Sindh government is now tormenting wheat farmers under its agenda to harm the agriculture-based economy of Sindh, charged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh President Dr Arif Alvi while addressing a press conference at the Hyderabad Press Club on Saturday.

PTI Sindh Senior Executive Vice-President Haleem Adil Sheikh, Senior Vice-President Sadaqat Jatoi and other leaders were also present.

Dr Alvi said the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has already damaged the economy of Sindh by exploiting poor farmers. He claimed billions of dollars looted from Sindh have been shifted to Dubai.

He said the rulers first targeted the sugar cane farmers and cruelly exploited them. The rulers did not even accept the orders of the apex court to give relief to the helpless farmers.



The MNA said that in Sindh, there is practically a monarchy instead of democracy. He claimed that out of the 27 sugar mills in Sindh, 19 were owned by one group of a known political party. He said this monopoly is the reason for the economic exploitation of farmers.

He explained that instead of distributing bardana amongst the farmers, the rulers are preparing to distribute it amongst their own party workers. The party leader said that PTI Chairperson Imran Khan has already said that they are against the idea of any division of Sindh, but his political opponents keep misquoting him. He said the PTI is fully committed to the people of Sindh and their due rights.

"Sindh has been braving an acute shortage of water, but the government is least concerned," Dr Alvi said.



Sheikh said corruption in Sindh has broken all previous records and there are many bizarre stories of corruption in the province. "Small timers of the past have now become billionaires due to this mega corruption," he said, adding that many uplift schemes have been introduced whose only purpose is to loot public funds.

He regretted that there was no clean drinking water in the province, while the education and health sectors are in shambles. "The people of Sindh are with us and we will bring lasting change in this province with their help," he said.
